CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Texas A&M-Corpus Christi men's and women's tennis hits the road to face perennial mid-major powers on Thursday and Friday.
Â
The road trip opens with the men taking on Wichita State in a neutral site meeting in Austin on Thursday. The Islanders and Shockers have consistently been ranked in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) national polls over the past decade. The Blue and Green have appeared in the rankings 10-straight years and Wichita State climbed as high as No. 63 while spending over a month in the rankings last season.
Â
Corpus Christi looks to return to its winning ways after back-to-back defeats at No. 11 Texas and at UT Arlington. The Islander men currently feature four freshmen playing in the rotation.
Â
Wichita State sits at 3-4 on the season and has won two of its past three matches.
Â
Following Thursday morning's clash with Wichita State, both the Islanders men and women will trek to Louisiana to face the Ragin' Cajuns on Friday. Louisiana and A&M-Corpus Christi have a long-standing rivalry that dates back over a decade.
Â
The Islanders and Louisiana open their clash with the women meeting at 1:30 p.m. on Friday. The A&M-Corpus Christi women had their nation-leading regular season win streak snapped last week at SMU and look to return to its winning ways.
Â
The men's match will follow at approximately 3:30 p.m. Friday afternoon. A&M-Corpus Christi will be aiming for a measure of revenge in the series after Louisiana claimed both of last season's meetings by a 4-2 score.
Â
Following the weekend road trip, the Islanders will return home for the 51st Annual H-E-B Tournament of Champions on March 3 and 4. The women will also be in action on March 4 as they open Southland Play with a home bout against UIW.
