Nation's Longest Win Streak Put to Test at SMU

Islanders and Mustangs clash in battle of unbeatens

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas-  Carrying a 25-match regular season win streak, the longest in the nation, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi women's tennis travels to undefeated SMU on Wednesday. First serve for the clash of undefeated teams is set for 5 p.m.

Senior Judit Vives leads the Islanders into Dallas with a 4-0 singles record. In doubles action, Louise Trigona and Marina Vicens Miquel also hold a 2-0 record to open the year.

SMU currently sits undefeated  at 5-0 with their two most recent victories coming over UTRGV (7-0) and Northwestern State (6-1). SMU senior Dasha Sharapova leads the Mustangs with a 5-0 dual record this season.

In the last meeting with the Mustangs on February 12, 2014, the Islanders toppled SMU 4-3 as Celia Rodriguez secured a 7-6 victory in her third set to salt the match away.

While the two squads have not squared off in dual action since 2014, the Islanders and Mustangs saw a glimpse of each other in fall tournament action. Judit Vives dropped a singles match against Dasha Sharapova by a razor-thin 7-6 margin in the third set. Vives and Alexandra Belle defeated the SMU pairing of Charline Anselmo and Sara Jamal by a 6-3 score.

Following Wednesday's match, the Islander women will have nine days off before traveling to Louisiana to face the Ragin' Cajuns on February 24.
