Track & Field Hannah McWilliams topped the 4.05-meter bar in the pole vault to become the first Islander to clear four meters.

Record Falls on Friday

FRISCO, Texas – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Track & Field program capped two days of competition at the Dunamis Sports Group College Classic at the practice facility for the Dallas Cowboys.
 
For the fourth consecutive day of competition for the Islanders, a record fell. On Friday, it was pole vaulter Hannah McWilliams' turn to etch her name in the record books.
 
McWilliams cleared the 4.05-meter bar to earn a third-place finish, break her own program record and become the first Islander to clear four meters.
 
Similar to Thursday, the Islanders had several scoring performances throughout the day. Adrienne Nickleson came in second in the women's shot put at 14.0 meters, which is the second best mark in program history.
 
Sashane Hanson and Zhafear Ray placed in the top-five in the high jump for the second consecutive day, after matching second-place finishes yesterday. Hanson topped the 1.68-meter bar for third, while Ray came in fourth at 1.95 meters.
 
Jan Anstett and Vinnie Van Puyvelde powered the Blue and Green in the men's mile in fourth and fifth place, respectively, while Marek Spriestersbach came in ninth.
 
After crossing the finish line in third in the men's mile on Thursday, Steven Galli took fifth-place honors in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 8:41.28.
 
NOTABLES
>> Morgan McCutchen held on to a 10th-place finish in the women's mile.
>> Lauren Brown broke into the top-10 in the triple jump for the first time in her career at eighth place for the event.
>> The distance runners on the men's program earned All-Academic status for coursework during the cross country season. The men were one of four Southland Conference schools to receive the recognition from the USTFCCCA.
>> Diamond Thomas placed third in the shot put with a distance 13.29 meters. 
 
SIGHTS SET ON SOUTHLAND CHAMPIONSHIPS
The Islanders are off until the Southland Conference Indoor Championships on Feb. 22 and 23 in Birmingham, Ala.
