KINGSVILLE, Texas – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi track & field team gets back in action for the second weekend in a row this Friday and Saturday, making the quick trip southwest to compete at the Cactus Cup, hosted by Texas A&M-Kingsville.
The Islanders start off their time at the meet with a pair of events on both the men's and women's side in the opening day, featuring in the javelin throw and the hammer throw at 4 p.m. They then return on Saturday starting with the men's discus throw and the women's long jump at noon before then competing all throughout the day and wrapping up with the men's 1500m at 7 p.m. The competition over the weekend consists of hosts A&M-Kingsville along with conference rival UTRGV, St. Edward's, Trinity (TX), Our Lady of the Lake, North American, Victoria College and CCC Texas.
A&M-Corpus Christi sent a small contingency to last year's Cactus Cup, most notably seeing
Jayda Hough set a personal record of 1.67m in the women's high jump that stood until she broke it with a mark of 1.70m at last month's UTSA Invitational that currently ranks as the fourth-best in program history. The Islanders most recently competed at both the 98
th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays in Austin and the Bobcat Invitational in San Marcos last weekend, with their runs at both highlighted by two different wins in the 1500m by
Elizabeth Khatevi in performances that earned her the most recent Southland Conference Women's Track Athlete of the Week.
