HUNTSVILLE, Texas – Autumn Bynum and
Olivia Lowe turned in matching scorecards of 76 to lead Texas A&M-Corpus Christi to a fourth place finish at the Bearkat Invitational host by Sam Houston State.
Â
Playing through a weather delay and wet conditions, the Islanders fired their best round of the tournament finishing at 308 to climb from sixth to fourth on the team leaderboard in the final round. On the week, Corpus Christi finished at 930 with Bynum leading the way at 224.
Â
Bynum's 224 landed the Islander in sixth-place on the individual leaderboard, a career-best finish for the sophomore. After a pair of matching rounds at 74 on the opening day, Bynum produced a 76 on Tuesday to finish at 11-over and 224 for the tournament.
Â
Lowe matched Bynum's round of 76 with 14 pars in her round. The senior sat even through her first eight holes of the day before a bogey on 15. Lowe would bounce back to par each of the next five holes en route to the 5-over round. For the tournament, Lowe finished at 234 and in a tie for 21st.
Â
Brooklyn Sutton and
Julia Dereniwsky rounded out the Islanders who counted toward the team score with final rounds of 78. Sutton carded 12 pars on her way to the 78. After an opening round of 82, Sutton rebounded nicely to climb back to 26th on the individual leaderboard.
Â
Dereniwsky's 78 also came without the benefit of a birdie, but the Islander carded a dozen pars on the day. After sitting at 5-over through 10 holes, Dereniwsky settled in drop just two shots the remainder of the round.
Â
Dani Bergmann started off her final round with a pair of birdies in the first seven holes to sit even, but would finish with a card of 80 on the day. At 241 for the tournament, Bergmann finished in a tie for 36th.
Â
Playing unattached, newcomer
Alex Amos produced the best round of any Islander on the day, carding a 3-over 74. A pair of birdies and 11 pars helped Amos climb 14 spots on the individual leaderboard to finish in a tie for 32nd at 239 on the week.
Â
The Islanders' fourth place finish marks the best of the year thus far and the highest since the Morehead State Citrus Challenge in March. Corpus Christi will return to action at the Pat Bradley Invitational on October 22 -24 in Lakewood Ranch, Fla.
