Bynum tied for 7th after opening day

HUNTSVILLE, Texas – Autumn Bynum fired a pair of 3-over par rounds of 74 to lead Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on the opening day of the Bearkat Invitational as the Islanders sit sixth on the leaderboard.

The par-71, 6,067-yard Raven's Next Golf Club played tough on Monday, as only three rounds of the 138 played came in below par. Bynum's pair of cards at 74 have the Islander tied for seventh on the individual leaderboard at 6-over through 36 holes.

The Islanders sit sixth with a team card of 622 through the first 36 holes. Corpus Christi is just three shots out of fifth and four shots back of fourth.

Bynum opened her day with three straight pars before a string of three bogeys in four holes lifted her to 3-over. Another opening round bogey on 17 moved her to 4-over before Bynum struck for her lone birdie of the opening round on her 18th hole of the morning.

In the second round, Bynum carded a pair of birdies on holes 4 and 13, but a double-bogey on 14 erased those before five straight pars closed another 3-over 74.

Brooklyn Sutton was next for the Islanders, carding rounds of 82 and 75 for a two-round total of 157. In her second round, Sutton holed a pair of birdies on the front nine, but also carded three bogeys and a triple bogey. After the wild start, Sutton settled in for 10-straight pars to close her round and earn the 4-over 75 to end the day.

Olivia Lowe carded rounds of 78 and 80 to score in both rounds for the Blue and Green. Lowe produced a total of 23 pars on the day and stands 33rd individually after day one.

Dani Bergmann and Julia Dereniwsky each produced matching rounds of 80 and 81 on Monday. Bergmann carded a pair of birdies, one in each round while Dereniwsky had one birdie and 20 pars on the day.

Playing unattached, Alex Amos shot an 87 in the opening round before rebounding for a 78 in the afternoon.

The Islanders will look to make a charge up the leaderboard on the final day of the Bearkat Invitational as play concludes Tuesday.
