Islanders Women's Basketball Announces 2016-17 Schedule

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Fifteen home games, with eight at the American Bank Center, highlight the fifth year of the Royce Chadwick era for the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi women's basketball team.

Chadwick enters the 2016-17 campaign with a new-look roster, featuring eight newcomers. Five freshmen and three transfers will team up with eight returners, including three starters, to chart their course to the Southland Conference Championship in March.

The Islanders tip off the year with six of their first seven games in the Coastal Bend, four of which will be to the Dugan Wellness Center. A Nov. 12 matchup against Toledo opens the season at the American Bank Center after a preseason exhibition with Texas A&M-International on Nov. 6.

A home contest with Texas Southern (Nov. 16) and the first road game of the year at Texas State (Nov. 18) leads into a four-game homestand with Montana Tech (Nov. 23) at the ABC and Panhandle State (Nov. 30), UTRGV (Dec. 3) and Schreiner (Dec. 6) coming at the Dugan. The contest against the Vaqueros will be the first women's basketball contest of the South Texas Showdown presented by NavyArmy Community Credit Union.

A&M-Corpus Christi will not see the friendly confines of the Coastal Bend for the next month. Trips to Texas A&M (Dec. 10) and Rice (Dec. 15) precede the UTRGV Tournament Dec. 19-20. The Islanders open the event with the first-ever meeting with UC-Santa Barbara, before facing the host Vaqueros in the return leg of the South Texas Showdown presented by NavyArmy Community Credit Union.

Southland Conference action opens with a three-game road trip to New Orleans (Dec. 31), Nicholls (Jan. 2) and Stephen F. Austin (Jan. 5), before three straight at home versus Northwestern State (Jan. 7), Southeastern La. (Jan. 11) and Central Arkansas (Jan. 14). The six games will be played over a 15-day span.

The Islanders play five of the next seven contests on the road at Sam Houston State (Jan. 21), Lamar (Jan. 25), Houston Baptist (Feb. 4), Southeastern La. (Feb. 8) and Incarnate Word (Feb. 15) with the lone home games during the stretch on Jan. 28 and Feb. 1 against Nicholls and Abilene Christian, respectively.

Following a visit from Lamar (Feb. 18) and a trip to Abilene Christian (Feb. 22), the Blue and Green close out the regular season with three straight games at home versus McNeese (Feb. 25), Houston Baptist (March 1) and Incarnate Word (March 4).

A&M-Corpus Christi aims to return to the Southland Conference Tournament after narrowly missing out last year. Postseason play runs March 8-12 at the Merrell Center in Katy.
