CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Following its second Southland Conference title in three seasons, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi women's tennis has added a pair of international players to bolster its 2016 roster.
The two signees, Louise Trigona and Maria Maldonado, both hail from Europe as the Blue and Green continues its pipeline of players from overseas.
The two newest members of Islanders Tennis will arrive this Fall and join a squad fresh off its second Southland Conference Championship in three seasons. Trigona and Maldonado will look to help the Islanders duplicate the past season's success when the Blue and Green went 21-0 in the regular season. A&M-Corpus Christi was the only Division I team to go undefeated in the regular season and earned their second berth in the NCAA Tournament, falling to eventual National Champion Stanford.
Both Trigona and Maldonado have experienced high levels of success throughout their tournament play over the past several years.
LOUISE TRIGONA
Trigona joins the Islanders out of Bourges, France, to bring the French count to three for the Islanders. Trigona has enjoyed success throughout her career, including recently defeating a -4/6 ranked opponent in her native France.
Trigona has participated in the French national championship four times, reaching eight finals. She has also won a trio of regional championships and helped her club to pass in the Superior Division: National 2.The new Islander has experienced success at every level and will look to continue that trend when she joins the Blue and Green this Fall.
MARIA MALDONADO
Hailing from El Ejido, Spain, Maldonado continues the Spanish pipeline to the Island. Maldonado has experienced a wealth of success on the club level in Spain, helping her team to three Andalucia titles and a pair more finals appearances in the past four seasons at the Junior and Cadet level.
As an individual, Maldonado reached an Absolute Spanish Ranking of 86. She recently won the Richi Tennis Academy Tournament and added a pair of 2015 titles at the Absolute level as well.
