CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Giving back to the community has been a staple of
Royce Chadwick's culture with the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi women's basketball team. From working at a local homeless shelter to promoting education within elementary schools, the Islanders have always striven to find ways to help out the Corpus Christi community.
On Saturday morning, A&M-Corpus Christi spent time at the start of the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer with the American Cancer Society.
"I think it's important that student-athletes understand that they have a role to play in the community off the court," said Chadwick. "It's important to generate breast cancer awareness and support those who have courageously battled this disease."
After spending the morning cheering on walk participants, the Islanders returned to Moody Fieldhouse for their first team scrimmage of the year.

Brianna Jackson had impressive outings for the newcomers, while
Camesha Davis,
Kassie Jones and
Maddisen Turner led the way for the veterans.
A&M-Corpus Christi competes in its lone exhibition game of the year on Nov. 6 when Texas A&M-International comes to the Dugan Wellness Center. The 2016-17 season tips off on Nov. 12 at the American Bank Center against Toledo.
