Baseball Starts Longest Road Trip of 2026 With Midweek Stops at Rice, Prairie View A&M

HOUSTON – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi baseball team starts its longest road trip of the 2026 season with back-to-back midweek games this week, first heading to Houston to take on Rice on Tuesday at 6:35 p.m. before then making the quick drive to square off with Prairie View A&M on Wednesday at 3 p.m.

The two midweek contests will be the first that actually count for the Islanders (14-16) since they fell to UTSA on the road on March 24, as last week, they played against the Double-A Corpus Christi Hooks in exhibition action and secured a well-fought 4-4 tie against their professional neighbors at Whataburger Field. In regular season midweeks this year, A&M-Corpus Christi currently holds an even 3-3 record, having fallen twice to the Roadrunners and once to current No. 18 Texas A&M while knocking off Texas Southern in back-to-back games as well as the Panthers (6-24) in the first meeting between the two teams at Chapman Field on February 24.

The first of these games comes against a resurgent Owls squad (19-14), who enters play on Tuesday having already won more games in 2026 than they did throughout the entirety of 2025. The Islanders have historically struggled against Rice to the tune of a 2-16 record in the all-time series overall, but both of those wins have come in just the last three meetings between the two dating back to 2022, including a convincing 9-2 victory last year in which they banged out 18 hits while only surrendering six themselves. In this game, A&M-Corpus Christi got multi-hit performances from four different returners to this year's team, with Christian Smith-Johnson leading the way with four, Karson Krowka tallying three and Cade Sanchez and Austin Russell getting on the board with two apiece. Easten Smith also got the start on that day, working four innings while surrendering just two earned runs on two hits and a walk and punching out three.

Less than 24 hours later, A&M-Corpus Christi then goes to Prairie View looking to complete the sweep of the season series after winning the aforementioned home contest in February by a final of 9-2. The Islanders' pitching was fantastic in this game, allowing just a lone earned run while walking just three batters and striking out 15, which still stands as the most for the team in any single game this year. In the lineup, the trio of Sanchez, Smith-Johnson and Isaiah Afework led the way, combining to go 7-12 with two walks and three RBIs.

Both games will be available to watch live, with the first streaming live on ESPN+ and the second on SWAC TV.
