SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi baseball team starts an important week of games in midweek action coming up, making the trip to San Marcos for a matchup with Texas State on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
The Islanders (21-22) enter play with some momentum after a very successful conference weekend in their last time out, going on the road to San Antonio and sweeping Incarnate Word in three games while outscoring the Cardinals by a combined total of 31-11. These victories moved them up into a tie for the important eighth seed in the Southland Conference standings with Houston Christian, whom they will welcome for a three-game series at Chapman Field over the weekend. Against the Cardinals, the team was led by a monster stretch from
Christian Smith-Johnson, who was named the Southland Conference Hitter of the Week on Monday afternoon after going 8-14 with two home runs, eight RBIs seven runs scored and three stolen bases.
A&M-Corpus Christi will be squaring off with the Bobcats (27-17) for the first time since March 5, 2024, when they scored a pair of runs in the eighth inning to erase a late deficit and take home the win by a final score of 6-5. The Islanders hold a record of just 11-32 all-time against their former conference rivals but have performed better over the last few meetings, winning two of the previous three dating back to 2019 after dropping five in a row before that. The Bobcats are led this year by Jaquae Stewart and Dawson Park in the lineup, who both enter play with 13 home runs and an OPS above 1.000, providing a tricky challenge for the Islander arms to solve.
Tuesday's game will be available to watch live on ESPN+.
