SAN ANTONIO – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi baseball team heads into an important conference series over the weekend, traveling up to San Antonio to match up with Incarnate Word for three games starting on Friday at 2 p.m.
The Islanders (18-22, 7-14 SLC) were most recently on the field on Wednesday, falling to Nicholls in what was the resumption of the previously postponed game between the two teams back on March 6 thanks to an upheld protest. They did earn a big series victory at home last weekend, though, downing McNeese in two of three contests to move themselves within three games of the Cowboys for the eighth seed in the Southland Conference standings. The team was led last week by
Jarrett Flaggert at the plate, who earned himself an honorable mention for SLC Hitter of the Week after posting a 1.291 OPS with three extra-base hits and eight RBIs in four games.
A&M-Corpus Christi comes into the weekend looking for the series win over the Cardinals (18-20, 8-13 SLC), whom it sits just a game behind in the standings heading into Friday. UIW was idle in conference play a week ago, most recently falling in a midweek at Texas State on Tuesday but defeating Big 12 opponent Texas Tech 13-8 back on April 15. The Cardinals are led by Cole Tabor in the lineup, who comes in sporting a 1.021 OPS and 11 home runs, which ranks tied for third in the conference.
