CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi baseball team finally gets its conference schedule started over the weekend, remaining home at Chapman Field to host Nicholls for three games starting on Friday at 6:30 p.m.
Due to anticipated inclement weather in the area, the game that was originally set for Sunday has now been moved to the second leg of a doubleheader that will take place on Saturday, with the first game of the two now set to begin at 1 p.m.
The Islanders (8-5) head into this next slate of games as the last remaining team in the Southland to not have started conference play last weekend, having instead took two of three games over Texas Southern at the same time. In their most recent time out on Tuesday, they came incredibly close to securing a ranked win over #25 UTSA, heading into the ninth all tied up with the Roadrunners but falling by a final score of 7-5. Isaiah Afework continued his excellent form as of late, going 2-5 with 3 RBIs while also hitting his second home run of the year.
A&M-Corpus Christi now takes on a Colonels (7-8, 1-2 SLC) team coming off a big win during the week, as they bounced back after dropping their first conference series of the year to McNeese last weekend by upsetting #10 Southern Miss in Hattiesburg on Wednesday. The Islanders hold the all-time series lead over Nicholls by a count of 30-23 but are looking to reverse a recent slide, having dropped nine in a row in the matchup dating back to May 13, 2023, including the meeting in Thibodaux last year where they were swept in three games. The Colonels are led by infielder Caston Thompson, who enters play with a 1.231 OPS in five home runs and five doubles in his 15 starts.

Steven King on the call for Friday and Doug Kesterson filling in for both games on Saturday.
