EDINBURG, Texas – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi continues its road swing with its fourth conference series of the season over the weekend, traveling down to Edinburg for three games against UTRGV in the South Texas Showdown, presented by Rally Credit Union.
The Islanders (11-13) started off their trip in San Antonio on Tuesday, going down to the wire with UTSA but ultimately falling by a final of 3-1. During this game, their pitching staff put together an excellent effort, allowing just three hits and three walks in total while striking out eight, but their bats could not put together the rally they needed to take advantage. Cade Sanchez had the best day of anyone, continuing his excellent start to the season by going 2-3 with his second home run of the year, increasing his current hitting streak up to 12 games and raising his average back over .400.
Starting Friday, A&M-Corpus Christi meets a Vaqueros (13-12, 8-4 SLC) team that comes in having won each of its last six conference games dating back to March 13. UTRGV is led by infielder Armani Raygoza in the lineup, who leads the Southland with 10 home runs so far this year while also holding a team-high OPS of 1.082. The Islanders will be looking to enact some revenge against their rivals over the weekend, as in the last time that the two teams met, the Vaqueros eliminated them from the 2025 Southland Conference Baseball Championship in the bottom half of the Edinburg Bracket.
