SAN ANTONIO – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi baseball team is back on the field for midweek action this week, heading to San Antonio to complete the second leg of its home-and-home series with UTSA on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
The Islanders (11-12) meet with the Roadrunners (17-7) again after the two squared off at Chapman Field back on March 3, with then-25
th ranked UTSA taking home the victory by a final score of 7-5 in what was a tightly fought contest throughout. A&M-Corpus Christi started that game off by taking a 3-0 lead in the first inning, and after the Roadrunners scored five unanswered to go ahead themselves, the team responded with two in the bottom of the seventh to knot tings up at five apiece. Isaiah Afework led the way on offense, combining to go 6-15 with a homer, a double, four RBIs and four runs scored.
Tuesday's game will provide A&M-Corpus Christi with a chance to shake off a tough defeat in its most recent game on Sunday, where the team fell to Lamar 18-15 in a wild 10-inning affair that lasted more than five hours and saw 17 different pitchers take the mound between the two teams. Even with the loss, the Islanders had their best offensive performance of the year to date, scoring their most runs in a single game since they plated a program-record 24 against Harvard all the way back on March 16, 2023, and tallying their most hits since they banged out 20 in their 16-inning marathon against Stephen F. Austin on April 16 of last year.
