CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi baseball team rolls on its nonconference schedule at home this weekend, welcoming Texas Southern to town for a three-game series at Chapman Field starting Friday at 6:30 p.m.
The Islanders (6-3) come into play fresh off a win over another SWAC school in their midweek contest on Tuesday, taking down Prairie View A&M at home by a final score of 9-2. The team's pitching shined on this day, with junior
Pierre-Luc Jacques turning in three solid innings as the starter before five different bullpen arms combined to pitch the final six frames of the game while allowing just a lone earned run and punching out 12 batters. The offense also got going once again in this game, reaching double-digit hits for the fifth time on the young season and getting multiple knocks from the trio of junior

A&M-Corpus Christi now takes this momentum into a matchup against a Tigers (4-2) team that it has historically dominated, holding an overall record of 31-5-1 dating all the way back to 2000. The most recent meeting did not go the Islanders' way, however, as they fell on March 11 of last year by a final score of 14-13 after originally jumping out to an 8-1 lead in the first. Among returners to this year's team Smith-Johnson led the way in the lineup by going 3-5 with a double and three RBIs, and redshirt junior
Matthew Molina tossed two scoreless innings in relief with a pair of punchouts.
