CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi baseball team competes in one of its most notable events on the calendar this weekend, hosting Cal State Bakersfield, Long Beach State and Pittsburgh at Whataburger Field for the 2026 Kleberg Bank College Classic Friday through Sunday.
This year's version of the tournament is the 15
th edition dating back to its inception in 2012. The Islanders (4-1) will start their run off with a pair of first-time matchups, squaring off with the Roadrunners (2-3) on Friday at 6 p.m. and the Dirtbags (1-3) at the same time on Saturday before capping things off against a familiar foe in the Panthers (2-1), who made the trek to South Texas for the tournament back in 2024.
A&M-Corpus Christi will be looking to bounce back after falling on the road in College Station to No. 24 Texas A&M in its most recent contest game on Thursday. The team hung in close with the nationally ranked Aggies, playing to a 3-3 tie through the top half of the seventh, but it could not cool off the bats of the SEC powerhouse late and fell by a final score of 8-3 as a result. This was the Islanders' first defeat of the season after they had previously picked up a four-game sweep of Stonehill College during the opening weekend of the year, doing so while outscoring the Skyhawks by a combined total of 45-15.
The Islanders will also be trying to recapture their form from last year's Kleberg Bank College Classic, in which they posted a 2-1 record and picked up wins over a UCLA team that went on to finish fifth at the 2025 Men's College World Series as well as Washington State. In the 12-year history of the event, the hosts possess an overall record of 17-26 in their 43 games.
