FRISCO, Texas – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi men's tennis team saw its first honoree of the season as
Nicholas Niox Chateau was named the SLC Player of the Week announced by the league office Tuesday.
Niox Chateau helped the Islanders to a rivalry match win, defeating UTRGV's Sam Whitehead in a sweep at No. 1 singles 6-2, 6-2. He held a one set lead on his opponent from Oral Roberts at No. 1 singles before play was called in the 10th win of A&M-Corpus Christi's season.
Individually, Niox Chateau is 5-1 on the year in singles play with four wins at that top position. His only loss has been to #7 Texas where he played the Longhorn's top player who was ranked 10th nationally.
"We are so incredibly proud of Nico!" said head coach
Steve Moore. "He has been such a great role model for the Islanders and has grown and matured so much! He has tremendous character, motivation, and work ethic, and he cares so much about this team. He is a joy to coach because he listens and works so hard. Nico Niox is a ROCK!"
