Baseball Takes Hot Start into Big Midweek Road Test Against #24 Texas A&M

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi baseball team hits the road for the first time in 2026 this week, taking its hot start up to College Station for a big test against #24 Texas A&M on Tuesday at 6 p.m.

The Islanders (4-0) began the new season in grand fashion over the weekend, securing a four-game sweep over Stonehill College while outscoring the Skyhawks by a combined total of 45-15. The 4-0 start is the first for A&M-Corpus Christi in 11 years, with the last instance coming when the team ripped off five straight wins over Saint Peter's, Missouri and Purdue to open the 2015 campaign. The Islanders also managed to score 11 or more runs in every contest so far, which marks the first time in program history tallying double digits on offense in four straight games to open any single season.

This performance with the bats was powered by graduate Cade Sanchez, who on Monday was announced at the first Southland Conference Hitter of the Week of the 2026 season. Hitting primarily in the middle of the order, Sanchez was the catalyst to the historic offensive performance, going 7-13 with three doubles, two walks, two HBPs, seven RBIs and four runs scored while also swiping two bags on the basepaths. This was the first weekly honor of Sanchez's three-year career with the program and the second in a row for the Islanders after Isaac Webb earned the same award during the final voting period of 2025.

The Islanders will now look to keep things rolling in a big test against the Aggies (3-0), who also picked up a sweep of their opening series against Tennessee Tech. The matchup will be the 16th all-time between the two squads, with A&M-Corpus Christi still searching for its first-ever win over the flagship. The team fell on the road last season by a final score of 17-7, but it still made headlines in this game even despite this, as senior Christian Smith-Johnson earned the No. 1 play on SportsCenter's Top 10 that night for his incredible grand slam robbery in which he flipped over the wall in right field.

The game on Tuesday can be watched live on SEC Network+ with Will Johnson and John Scheschuk on the call.
