CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi men's and women's basketball programs take the court for the first time this season on Thursday, October 22 at Island Madness. The event will take place inside the Dugan Wellness Center, with doors opening for the event at 7:30 p.m.
Island Madness is a free event, open to the public and students. It is geared towards building excitement among the Islander students as the university nears the beginning of men's and women's basketballs upcoming seasons. The men's basketball program is under the leadership of
Jim Shaw as he enters his fourth season as head coach of the Islanders, while the women's side is led by coach
Toyelle Wilson, who is entering her second season at TAMU-CC.
Students and attendees will have the opportunity to win prizes and giveaways throughout the night, including a truck from AutoNation Chevrolet South Corpus Christi.
"Island Madness is an awesome tradition on the Island! It's a great way for our basketball programs to kick start the season," said
Adrian Rodriguez, Vice President of Intercollegiate Athletics. "It gives our student-athletes the chance to introduce themselves to the fans, student body, and Coastal Bend community. It also gives our students a chance to come out to the Dugan Wellness Center with their friends and see how much fun they can have and how much energy surrounds Islander basketball."
The night will include performances by the Islanders Spirit Teams and Pep Band, men's and women's basketball player introductions, a dunk contest, student knock out, and more.
