LAFAYETTE, La. - The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi men's basketball team is back on the road as they take on the Louisiana Ragin Cajuns on Friday night. Tip is set for 7 p.m. as both sides look to pick up their first win of the season in their second game.
The Islanders are back on the road for the second-straight contest after dropping their season opener at Texas State on Monday night. They fell behind the Bobcats early but by double digits before playing even with the home side the rest of the game that finished 67-55. Louisiana is coming off a 75-61 defeat against Akron at home in their season opener. The two sides are meeting for the third time in program history, with the Ragin Cajuns holding a 2-0 series lead.
Corpus Christi had two players reach double-figure points in the opener, led by
Desmond Kent Jr., who went 6-of-8 from the floor and finished with 13 points off the bench.
Daniel Michelini-Jackson was the lone starter to reach the mark as he finished with ten points. The Islanders were efficient from two, shooting over 50 percent from the floor inside the arc, but were just 3-of-17 from deep against the Bobcats.
The second unit was a bright spot for the Islanders in game one, outscoring Texas State's bench 37-15. Kent,
CJ Worsham, and
Khi Wallace led the way, as the trio combined for 30. The offense was stagnant at times for the Islanders as they finished with just six assists on their 21 field goals and had 15 turnovers. The Ragin Cajuns had three players combine to score 55 of their 61 points against the Zips on Monday night, led by Jamyron Keller who had 26.
