CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi soccer team finally makes its long-awaited return to the Dr. Jack Dugan Family Soccer and Track Stadium this weekend, hosting New Mexico on Sunday afternoon at 12 p.m. for the first home game of the 2025 season.
The Islanders (0-1) come back to Corpus Christi looking to get in the win column for the first time in the new year, having come up short in the season opener on the road against Arkansas State on Thursday. They hung in close with their Sun Belt Conference opponents for much of the contest and seemed primed to walk away with at least one point, but a late goal by the Red Wolves in the 83
rd minute sent them home with the defeat. The match was not without any positives, though, as the team saw both sophomore
Vivianna Sykes and freshman
Sophia Dias record their first points at the collegiate level, with the latter assisting the former on a throw-in that turned into a beautiful equalizing goal on a one-timer in the box in the 79
th minute.
A&M-Corpus Christi now shifts its attention to the Lobos (1-0), who enter Sunday's game coming off an 8-0 trouncing of Texas Southern on Thursday, a contest in which they set their program record for most goals in a season opener and scored their most goals in any game since they netted nine against Troy all the way back in 2002. The match on Sunday will mark the first ever for the Islanders against New Mexico and just their fifth against any opponent from the current iteration of the Mountain West Conference, with the team looking for its first win against such teams after dropping two games apiece to Colorado College in 2018 and 2019 and UNLV in 2015 and 2016.
Sunday's game can be watched live on ESPN+ with
Steven King on the call. The live stats can also be followed along as they happen.
