Baseball Wraps up Regular Season Against New Orleans Eyeing Postseason Berth

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi baseball team wraps up the 2025 regular season with a very important set of games this week, welcoming New Orleans to Chapman Field for a three-game series with postseason implications on the line.

The Islanders (17-29, 9-18 SLC) enter the week of play in a tie for the final spot in the Southland Conference Baseball Championships, currently sitting with the same conference record as Nicholls. Due to their series loss at the hands of the Colonels at the beginning of March, though, they find themselves without possession of the tiebreaker, meaning they need to win one more game than Nicholls over the final three to earn the eighth seed.

In their most recent time out last weekend, A&M-Corpus Christi fought hard with sixth-seeded HCU on the road, taking home a win in the second game on Saturday while dropping the other two by just three combined runs. During this set, senior Zach Garcia made history on the mound, becoming the all-time program leader in career starts after taking the ball to kick things off for the 45th time in an Islanders uniform. The lefty turned in a solid effort in addition to this accomplishment as well, spinning his sixth quality start of the season by tossing seven innings of three-run ball in what turned out to be a no decision.

To clinch their spot in the playoffs, the Islanders will need to bring their best shot to the Privateers (25-21, 12-15 SLC), who most recently helped them out by taking two of three games from Nicholls before then having their midweek matchup against Tulane canceled due to inclement weather. The team will be looking to get some revenge for the last matchup between the two, when it was taken down by UNO in its final game of the Southland Conference Baseball Championships last year. The majority of the Islanders' offensive production in that contest came from members of this year's team, with seniors Chance Reisdorph and Logan Vaughan and junior Christian Smith-Johnson combining to go 3-10 with a triple and all four of their RBI.

All three games of the series will be available to watch live on ESPN+ with Steven King on the call. The live stats will also be available to follow along as they happen.
