HOUSTON, Texas – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi baseball team departs for its final road series of the 2025 regular season this week, heading north to take on Houston Christian for a three-game set that kicks off on Friday.
With just six games to go in the year, the Islanders (16-27, 8-16 SLC) find themselves in a tightly contested race for the final spot in the Southland Conference Baseball Championship, currently sitting in a tie for eighth place with Nicholls in the standings entering the weekend of play. They helped their prospects of a playoff push with a successful run of games in their most recent time out, taking home a pair of wins over UIW last weekend to earn their second conference series victory of the season. The team got a big lift in this set from junior
Jackson Smith, who continued his recent torrid stretch by going 6-11 with two home runs, a double, three walks and six RBI across the three contests.
The Islanders will now face a tough test from the Huskies (24-19, 15-9 SLC), who are currently jockeying for position at the top half of the conference standings. The matchup against HCU has been a successful one for A&M-Corpus Christi, with the team holding a 21-13 record in the all-time series and winning seven of the last 13 games between the two dating back to the 2021 season. It also emerged victorious in the most recent showdown on April 14 of last year, erasing a three-run deficit in the eighth inning and taking home the win in a wild one by a final score of 13-12. In that game, current junior
Christian Smith-Johnson led the way on offense by going 3-4 with a double and three RBI, and projected Friday starter
Zach Garcia set his single-game career high for strikeouts with eight.
The live stats for all three games will be available to follow along as they happen.
