BEAUMONT, Texas – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi soccer team gets its run at the 2025 Southland Conference Soccer Championship started on Tuesday at 4 p.m., kicking off the postseason with a matchup in the quarterfinals against second-seeded Stephen F. Austin.

The Islanders (5-8-5, 3-4-3 SLC) locked up their playoff spot in the regular season finale on Thursday, emerging victorious by a final score of 2-1 in a win-an-advance match against UIW. They jumped out ahead right away off the strength of two goals by senior
Morgan Westbury and freshman
Emma Lucero in the first eight minutes of the night, building an advantage that they were able to hold onto down the stretch to secure the points they needed to punch their ticket to the conference tournament. This capped off a very strong month of October for the team, earning 11 points in seven matches and jumping four spots up into the seventh seed by the time the calendar turned to November.

This year's appearance in the postseason marks A&M-Corpus Christi's ninth in the history of the program and its seventh in a row, with the last time the team failed to qualify being all the way back in 2018. The Islanders have matched up with the Lumberjacks (7-3-9, 5-1-4 SLC) one time in the tournament previously in 2020-21, a match in which they entered in the eighth and final spot and nearly completed the upset victory over the top seed, playing to a 1-1 tie through regulation and extra time before eventually falling 4-2 in penalty shootouts. This time around, they will be looking to avenge this loss and take home a victory in the playoffs for the second straight season, as they managed to knock off No. 7 Lamar in the quarterfinals in 2024 on their own home turf.

"It's in anyone's hands when you get to the postseason," Islanders senior and
2025 All-Conference Second Team honoree Mai-Lisa Atis said prior to Tuesday's match. "Whatever team shows up on that day and has the least amount of mistakes or puts in the most work can get a result, and I think it can go any way."
