FRISCO, Texas – Senior
Mai-Lisa Atis of the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi soccer team was recognized for her standout season on Monday morning, as it was announced by the league office that she was named a member of the All-Southland Conference Second Team as a midfielder.
The honor marks Atis's second year in a row being tabbed to the All-Conference Second Team, as she also earned the nod at the same position during the 2024 season. She has also been selected to the All-Academic Second Team on two different occasions, making it four postseason awards and counting throughout her four-year career with the Islanders.
Atis, a native of Miami, Florida, helped orchestrate A&M-Corpus Christi's offense from the attacking midfield position all season long, playing in all 18 regular season matches and finishing tied for second on the team in goals with three and in points scored with six. She also led the team with 35 total shots and 16 shots on goal, with the latter figure ranking 10
th in the entire conference.
Atis also leveled up her game in the most important matches, scoring two of her goals in conference play while attempting multiple shots in eight of 10 contests. This also included the game-winning goal against UTRGV on October 19, helping the Islanders earn three crucial points in the standings on their way to securing their spot in the upcoming Southland Conference Soccer Championship. For her career with the team, Atis currently sits on 16 total goals, ranking third all-time in program history.
"I'm happy Mai-Lisa was recognized for this award," Islanders head coach
Daniel Clitnovici said. "I think we had several top performers this season that equally deserved recognitions across many different categories, and she was definitely one of them. Mai-Lisa has been a standout Islander performer in the Southland each year, and she has been consistent enough to be awarded this accolade on several occasions. I'm very happy for her and our program."
The Islanders begin their run in the conference tournament on Tuesday, kicking things off in Beaumont on Tuesday at 4 p.m. CT with a matchup against No. 2 Stephen F. Austin.
