THIBODAUX, La. – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi volleyball team turned in one of the program's best hitting performances Thursday night, topping Nicholls with an offensive barrage in straight sets (25-13, 25-15, 25-23) and doing it on the road.
The Islanders (8-13, 4-5 SLC) fired off a .463 hitting efficiency against the Colonels (11-11, 1-8 SLC) tonight, hammering home 46 kills with just nine errors. It is the best three-set hitting percentage of the season, and just short of the program's best of a .506 set back in 2023 also in conference play.
It was a balanced attack as sophomore
Virginia Van Der Werff distributed the ball across for 36 assists as well as knocking down an errorless offense herself of six kills.
Junior
Kenna Buchanan led it with 14 kills and a .545 efficiency and upped her performance by including 12 digs for the double-double. Freshman
Jaeda Rawls-Fletcher turned in the double figure night of 10 kills and although senior
Katelyn Krienke was shy with nine, she went errorless on her 10 attempts for the .900 hitting clip.
Also getting some offensive reps were
Tatum Mason and Erin Hermann who registered three kills apiece.
On the defensive end, the Islanders held Nicholls to just a .182 clip. Buchanan tied the team high in digs with redshirt sophomore libero Brookyln Jaeger who also tallied 12 digs on the night. Krienke recorded seven digs while
Alessia Gallo and
Hadley Burger each recorded five.
The Islanders will continue their three-match road swing to McNeese Saturday for a 1 p.m. matchup.
