HOUSTON – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi men's tennis program grabbed the doubles point, but Rice came back to take a 4-1 decision Sunday at the George R. Brown Tennis Center.
The Islanders (10-7) got off to a strong start. The No. 1 doubles team of sophomores
Nathan Schwartz and
Pascal Lorieul won 6-2, and A&M-Corpus Christi with a 6-3 victory on court three from juniors Mattieu Peres and Uylsse Bertrand.
Though, Rice responded by topping the Islanders on the top four singles courts. The tightest singles match came at No. 6 where sophomore
Borja Delgado was edged in a first set tiebreaker and was in a second set when play was halted.
The Islanders will wrap-up a three-match road swing Thursday when they travel to Lamar for a 1 p.m. match. It will be a rematch of last year's Southland Conference finals as A&M-Corpus Christi won 4-1 to advance to the NCAA Tournament before the Cardinals departed for the WAC.
