Men’s Tennis Registers 4-2 Road Win at Lamar

BEAUMONT, Texas – In a rematch of last year's Southland Conference finals, the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi men's tennis program came out on top again in a 4-2 victory over Lamar on Thursday at the Thompson Family Tennis Center.
 
A&M-Corpus Christi (11-7) won the doubles point and three singles matches to snap Lamar's (8-4) seven-match winning-streak.
 
Sophomores Guillermo Castaneda and Borja Delgado got it started with a 6-2 win at No. 3 doubles. The clincher came at the top spot as sophomores Pascal Lorieul and Nathan Schwartz pulled out a tiebreak 7-6 (3).
 
It was a 2-0 day for Castaneda, Delgado and Schwartz as they all won in singles as well.
 
At court five, Delgado grinded-out a back-and-forth battle and won all the big points in the end for a 6-1, 0-6, 7-5 decision. It was a similar result on court four as Castaneda came back to win 4-6, 6-1, 6-2.
 
The clinching match was on court three where Schwartz battled for a 7-6 (2), 4-6, 6-4 victory.

Junior Ulysse Bertrand was slightly ahead in an unfinished match on court six. He split sets 7-6, 3-6 and was leading 2-1 in the third.
 
The men improved to 20-3 all-time against Lamar.
 
It concluded a three-match road swing for the Islanders, who will return home for their SLC opener Wednesday against NJIT at 11 a.m. at the Thomas J. Henry Tennis Center.
