DALLAS – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi men's tennis program came out on the short end of a 7-0 decision to SMU on Sunday at the Styslinger/Altec Tennis Complex.
It was the first indoor court match of the season for the Islanders, who are now 8-3 overall on the year.
"I give SMU a lot of credit today, and a lot of credit in general for this great event! This was an unbelievable experience for our players and something they will probably never forget - truly special," said head coach
Steve Moore. "We fought extremely hard and I thought we competed well, for indoors especially. They say you're winning or you're learning and today we definitely did some learning! But this team is improving, has great character, and we are excited beyond words as this season turns chapters to the hot, fitness part of the year that's all about heart and legs!
A&M-Corpus Christi won at least a game in every set it played in the match. The closest was at No. 3 singles where sophomore
Pascal Lorieul took four games in each set in a 6-4, 6-4 final.
The Islanders will return home Tuesday when they host UTRGV in the South Texas Showdown, presented by NavyArmy Community Credit Union. The men's match begins at 12 p.m. and the women at 3 p.m. at the Thomas J. Henry Tennis Center.
