COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Texas A&M-Corpus Christi dropped a tight 3-0 road test to in-state rival Texas A&M Monday afternoon at Reed Arena.
Kyndal Payne continued to impress on the Islanders' attack, tallying 13 kills for her third-straight, double-digit kill match. Setter
Faith Panhans extended her 30+ assist streak to three with 30 against the Aggies.
A&M-Corpus Christi raced to a 10-2 advantage out of the gate, but the Aggies bounced back with a seven-point streak of their own to cut the lead to two, 11-9. Both teams traded points down the stretch as a Panhans kills maintained the Islanders' edge before Texas A&M overtook the lead on a five-point spurt that led to a 25-22 win.
Moving to the second, the Aggies jumped to a 9-5 edge before a Texas A&M error ignited a four-point Islander run that ended with a
Montez Uigaese kill to even the set 9-9. Neither club led by more then two points until three-straight Aggie kills helped them close out the set.
Once again, both clubs made early runs as A&M-Corpus Christi strung together four points and capped it off with a Payne kill to deadlock it at nine apiece. A 5-0 run for the Aggies at the midway point proved the difference as they completed the sweep.
Up next, A&M-Corpus Christi heads to Edinburg for a neutral-site match versus Texas Southern on Saturday at 11 a.m.
