CORPUS Christi, Texas – Texas A&M-Corpus Christi volleyball opens its home slate with the Islanders Classic taking place September 16-18 at the Dugan Wellness Center.
The Islanders kick off the tournament with their home opener Thursday night against Texas State (6:30 p.m.), followed by a Friday match with UTEP (6 p.m.) and concluding Saturday versus Tarleton State (3:30 p.m.).
All matches will be streamed on the
Islanders Digital Network.
Islanders Match Notes
- The Islanders aims to continue their winning ways, as A&M-Corpus Christi went 2-0 last weekend with a sweep of Texas Southern and four-set victory over UTRGV.
- Carissa Barnes took home her second consecutive Southland Defensive Player of the Week honor this season and leads the nation with an average of 6.72 digs per set.
- Kyndal Payne paces the Islanders attack with 75 kills while Rachel Young narrowly claims the highest average of 2.82 kills per set.
- After an impressive weekend, Young earned a spot on the UTRGV All-Tournament team. She slammed 23 kills and yielded a .563 attack percentage in the rout of Texas Southern.
- This marks Steve Greene's sixth season at the helm of the Islanders, where he holds an 84-65 overall record.
