CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – For the second year in a row, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi has won the South Texas Showdown trophy over UTRGV, presented by NavyArmy Community Credit Union.

The Islanders have won four of the five annual competitions over the Vaqueros since the showdown started in in 2016-17.

A&M-Corpus Christi edged UTRGV by the final score of 28.5-25.5 this year, which was the closest score in the showdown's five-year history. The Islanders will maintain possession of the trophy, which is kept in the Dugan Wellness Center.

Every victory was worth three points. The Islanders won nine events, compared to eight for the Vaqueros. One soccer game ended in a tie. Two events were canceled, and no attendance points were awarded in 2020-21 due to COVID-19.
