LAKE CHARLES, La. –
Coming off wins over McNeese and HBU at home, the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi women's volleyball program will try to do it again on the road when it heads to the Cowgirls at 6:30 p.m. at the Rec Complex on Thursday, and the Huskies at 1 p.m. Saturday at Sharp Gym.

The Islanders (11-7, 7-0 SLC) have won 12 consecutive SLC matches dating back to last season. They beat McNeese (10-8, 4-3 SLC) 3-1 and HBU (14-7, 5-2 SLC) in a five-set thriller last weekend.

"I'm really proud of how hard the team has worked the first half of conference play," said head coach Steve Greene. "Coming off of two really big wins at home with great crowds we should have a lot of confidence right now."

Senior Montez Uigaese is the reigning SLC Offensive Player of the Week winner. She averaged 3.67 kills per set and a .353 hitting percentage over the two victories. Uigaese registered a .404 hitting clip and a career-high 25 kills against HBU, which was two shy of the school record for a single match.

The Islanders have won eight SLC Player of the Week awards in eight weeks, including five from junior Carissa Barnes. For the eighth week in a row, Barnes leads the nation in digs per set at 6.52 and also ranks first in the SLC in aces with 0.43 per frame. Junior setter Faith Panhans has also won a pair of SLC weekly honors.

A&M-Corpus Christi had to withstand a comeback attempt by the Cowgirls to get the win. The Islanders cruised through the first two sets before dropping a 28-26 marathon third. In the fourth, the set was tied 17-17 before they pulled away for the victory. Senior Rachel Young notched 13 kills with no errors and a .650 hitting percentage.

The match against the Huskies was a seesaw affair. There were comebacks both ways at the Islanders responded from a set down, and HBU followed by forcing a fifth after trailing 2-1. In the decisive set, A&M-Corpus Christi took control early with an 8-3 lead and never looked back.

The Islanders will look to slowdown Ebonie Ballesteros who recorded 16 kills, six blocks and a .351 hitting percentage for the Huskies. She helps HBU lead the league in blocks as a team with 2.63 per set.

"HBU and McNeese are both very well coached teams with a lot of weapons in multiple positions," Greene said. "Competing at a high level on the road will present a new set of challenges and I'm excited to see how we perform."

A&M-Corpus Christi is 14-5 all-time against both McNeese and HBU. The Islanders have won 14 straight against the Cowgirls and four in a row vs. the Huskies.
