FRISCO, Texas - Texas A&M-Corpus Christi senior guard Emma Coleman-O'Bryan has been named to the Southland Conference All-Academic Second Team, as announced by the conference office Wednesday morning. Coleman-O'Bryan has a 3.17 GPA as a Health Science major and is on track to graduate this spring.
The Nicholasville, Kentucky native was an integral part of the Islanders capturing their first regular season conference championship in school history, finishing the year with a 23-7 overall record and a program best 17-3 mark in SLC play. Coleman-O'Bryan appeared in all 30 games for the Islanders as a senior with 28 starts, averaging a career high 30.1 minutes/game. She led the team in assists (76) and free throw percentage (80.8-percent) while averaging 9.7 points/game. Coleman-O'Bryan collected her 1000th career point at New Orleans on Jan. 22, finishing her career No. 9 on the all-time scoring list with 1,123 points. She also is one of only four players in program history to record 1,000 career points and 600 rebounds. Coleman-O'Bryan completes her time on the Island having rewritten the record book, as she now has a place in 15 different Top-10 career categories.
The Southland All-Academic Teams are voted upon by the head coach, sports information director and academic/compliance staff member from each school. Eligible athletes must have held a minimum 3.00 cumulative GPA through the semester prior to the sport's season, completed at least one full academic year with the program prior to the current season and participated in at least 50 percent of the team's competitions during the most recent season.
