CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas- The Islanders took on Lubbock Christian University in an exhibition matchup at Jack Dugan Stadium tonight, where fans were treated to a golden goal win for the Islanders in overtime. The blue and green were able to compete in their first matchup this fall against another opponent, in a back and forth, aggressive matchup.
The Lady Chaps grabbed the lead early on with a first half goal by Kaylen McNatt at the 22:43 mark. However the Islanders, who started 5 seniors, allowed their experience to shine through and bounce back. After some aggressive offensive pushes, the Islanders jumped back into the game after a penalty kick goal by Senior
Celia Hilsabeck at the 8:49 mark following a handball penalty. At the end of the 90 minute regulation, the game moved into overtime, although it was quickly ended by Senior
Kayla Gove, who scored the golden goal to secure the 2-1 victory for the Islanders. The matchup featured two well matched teams, who fought hard and competed into overtime.
Following the win, the Islanders will return to Jack Dugan Stadium next Friday at 3 P.M to take on the Dallas Baptist Patriots to close out the 2020 fall season.
