Men's tennis signs Guillermo Castaneda

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi Director of Tennis Steve Moore has announced the signing of Guillermo Castaneda to a National Letter of Intent. A native of Veracruz, Mexico, Castaneda has been ranked as the No. 1 junior player in Mexico in multiple age divisions. He has also earned a top-300 world junior ranking and was being recruited by some of the nation's top schools including multiple power five programs.

"We are so happy that Guillermo chose to join the Islander Tennis family! Guillermo is an excellent player who has achieved high national and world rankings. He has tremendous potential to be a great college player and professional afterward with hard work. But what always impressed us the most about Guillermo what the great character, work ethic, humility and strong values he has. Everyone we called spoke so highly about him and his family. Former Islander captain, Ricardo Mayagoitia, gave Guillermo the highest recommendation - quite a compliment coming from and Islander legend like Ricardo. All of my conversations with Guillermo were about hard work, family team culture, respect, and wanting to be on a disciplined team. We are so happy Guillermo is joining the Islanders and we think he is a great fit for our team values. Go Islanders!!"
