Islanders sweep Tigers to open Friday

- The Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi volleyball team defeated Texas Southern, 3-0, at the Dugan Wellness Center in Corpus Christi, Texas, on Friday.
- The Islanders improved to 1-7 on the year while Texas Southern drops to 1-7
- Rachel Young led the attack with a .478 attack percentage. Her match-high 12 kills marked her fourth match this season with double-digit totals.

Key Islander Statistics
- Texas A&M-Corpus Christi won all three sets by scores of 25-20, 25-21 and 25-15.
- The Islanders hit .343 for the match with 49 kills. The team's best set came in the third, hitting .400 with just three attacking errors.
- Texas A&M-Corpus Christi also maintained a 74 side out percentage throughout the match. The high mark came during the third set at 81 percent.
- Madison Green dished out 36 assists in the victory, just one off her career high set last Saturday against Duke. Green added 10 digs and seven kills for her third double-double of the year.
- Sam Dumity finished with nine kills and hit .471. She added a block and a pair of digs as well.
- Jenna Krenek recorded her fourth double-digit dig performance of the season with a match-high 15. She added five assists and had two of the Islanders' four service aces.
- Kylie Filipiak had seven kills with two digs. She hit .429 for the match with just one error.
- Chloe Simon had five kills and added eight digs defensively.

Key Islander Sequences
- A slow start in the first set nearly doomed the Islanders. The Tigers jumped out to a seven-point lead at 14-7 and looked to pull away. But Texas A&M-Corpus Christi went on a tear, scoring nine of the next 11 points to tie the match at 16-16. The two teams would be tied 17-17 two points later until the Islanders took the lead for good back-to-back kills from Young. Up 23-20, A&M-Corpus Christi got a kill from Simon and Dumity provided the set-winning point on a kill off a feed from Green.

- The Islanders got off to another slow start in the second set but were able to pull even with the Tigers at 20-20 late. Young and Green combined on a block and a kill from Jenna Lyons made it 22-20. After a Texas Southern kill, Young picked up her 12th kill of the match to make it 23-21. An attack error from the Tigers made it set point. Krenek was able to dig a ball that Green found and instead of setting, quickly flicked it across the net to clinch the set for the Islanders, 25-21.
