CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - The Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi men's tennis team was ranked sixth in the final Oracle/ITA Division I Texas Regional rankings. The 2018 Islanders went 20-9 on the season and advanced to the Southland Conference Tournament Championship match.
Texas A&M-Corpus Christi was the highest ranked Southland team in the regional rankings. Lamar University was listed 10th as the only other conference team to make the list. The Islanders finished ahead of UT-San Antonio, Rice and UT-Arlington. Texas A&M topped the poll, followed by TCU, Texas, Baylor and Texas Tech.
Kyohei Yamanaka was named the Southland Conference's Freshman of the Year, garnering first team honors. Francois and
Okkie Kellerman were named Southland First Team All-Conference at No. 2 doubles.
William Mottet and
Thomas Rodrigues Lopes were named All-SLC Second Team Honorees in doubles.
Carlos Pedrosa Cuevas was named to the Southland Conference All-Academic team, maintaining a 3.81 while majoring in mechanical engineering. The Islander men maintained a 3.6 team GPA for the academic year and five men's student-athletes earned a perfect 4.0 for the spring semester.
