Tennis Wrap Regular Season this Weekend; Remains in Championship Contention

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi men's and women's tennis teams will finalize their regular seasons this weekend in different locations, with the women playing at McNeese in Lake Charles Saturday while the men head to San Antonio to face UIW Tuesday, both with scheduled starts at 11 a.m.

The men's match at UIW was pushed from Sunday to Tuesday due to forecasted weather in the San Antonio area.

The Islanders will be playing the league's current first-place teams on both sides with UIW's men hoisting a 4-0 record and the McNeese Cowgirls topping the standings at 7-0. The men (15-3, 3-1 SLC) could be co-champions with the Cardinals if they win Tuesday. The women (16-3, 6-2 SLC) need to defeat McNeese Saturday combined with a Cowgirls' loss in their regular season finale to UTRGV Monday to clinch a share of the championship.

The women would be going for their fourth consecutive regular season title and eighth overall, while the men would look to add to their historic mark and move their regular season championship count to 14 and 24 total titles.

Either side could extend the Islanders Tennis streak of winning a championship between the two teams to 17 consecutive seasons. Combined, they tally 37 championships as a program.

The women lead McNeese 20-7 in the all-time series, while the men hold a 12-2 advantage over UIW.
