SAN ANTONIO, Texas - The Texas A&M Corpus Christi track and field teams finished day the final day of competition at the 2018 Southland Conference Outdoor Championships on Sunday at Incarnate Word University. The Islanders took home a pair of conference individual titles as
Sashane Hanson successfully defended her high jump title with a clearance of 5-10 and
Allyson Girard took home the 1,500 meter crown, finishing in 4:31.50. The Islanders hit four personal bests on the day and set three school records.
The women's team finished sixth with 68 points while the men placed 10th with 40 points. The Islanders scored in the top-8 of 19 events on Sunday.
Hannah McWilliams finished second in the pole vault, clearing 12-11.50.
Rabea Schoneborn finished third in the 5,000 meters, running 17:00.02. Girard was fourth in the 5,000 in 17:30.29.
Diamond Thomas finished fourth in the shot put with a best throw of 47-1.75. Later in the day, Thomas came back to finish eighth in the discus throw with a best mark of 153-8.
Sierra Pruitt put together a four-event Sunday. The sprinter finished fifth in the 100 meters in 11.95, eighth in the 200 in 24.43. She also ran the second leg of the 4x100 relay with
Mikayla Roell,
Chloe Young and
Tashonna Williams to take seventh in 46.38. She closed the day by running the anchor leg on the school record setting 4x400 relay.
Williams, who anchored 4x100 relay and also ran second on the 4x400 relay, ran 55.44 in the 400 meter dash finals to take sixth overall.
Kendall Rodriguez finished seventh in the 400 meter hurdles, finishing in 1:02.07. She also ran a leg on the 4x400 relay.
On the men's side,
James Manders set a school record with 6,842 points in the Decathlon. He hit personal bests in three-of-five events on Sunday in the discus, javelin and 1,500 meter run.
Bjoern Adden finished fourth in the Decathlon with a personal best 6,504 points.
Zhafear Ray cleared 6-9.5 in the high jump, finishing fourth overall.
Will Maraggia ran 1:51.89 in the 800 meters to take fourth place. The 4x400 relay of
Terrion Spivey,
Will Maraggia, Manders and
Angelo Garland finished fifth to close out the meet, running a season-best 3:11.90.
Logan Robinson finished seventh in the javelin with a school record throw of 196-8 to place seventh and had a personal best throw of 52-1.25 in the shot put to finish eighth.
