Islanders Conclude their Year Against UIW

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas- Texas A&M Corpus Christi Softball will be traveling to San Antonio, TX., on May 4th to finish off their final Southland Conference Series of the 2018 season. Being hosted by the University of Incarnate Word, the Islanders will cap off the three-game stand on May 4th with a doubleheader at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m; concluding competition beginning on May 5th at 12 p.m.

PREVIOUS GAME FOR THE ISLANDERS
Hosting their ninth SLC Series of the season, the Blue and Green dropped all three games against Nicholls on April 27th and 28th. Playing at Chapman Field, the Islanders were edged off by the Colonels 0-6 & 0-8 in their doubleheader contest, and finished 1-10 in the final competition against NSU.

FOR THE ISLANDERS
>> Keagan Helson, Kandace Johnson, Kaylon Dunn, and Taelor Thomas went 2-for-4 at the plate in the final contest against Prairie View A&M on April 17th.
>> Kayla Sheridan leads the Islanders batting squad with a .307 average, .319 slugging percentage, and an on-base percentage of .319. The Junior outfielder holds 50 hits on the plate, with 17 total runs under her belt for the Blue and Green.
>> Keagan Helson being the biggest help for the Islanders Softball offensive team, as she leads TAMU-CC's lineup with 21 RBI's, 25 runs, 9 stolen bases, 8 doubles, and a .403 slugging percentage on the plate.
>> Ashley Smith leads the Blue and Green's pitching staff, holding a 5.71 ERA with 47 total strikeouts in the circle. The Junior veteran has started in 26 of her 34 appeared games, with 145 innings under her name.
>> The Islanders are 12-36 for the season as they approach the Cardinals at their field in San Antonio, TX., on May 4th.

SCOUTING THE CARDINALS
>> Marcela Lopez leads the Cardinals with a .279 batting average, 13 runs, one double, and six RBIs.
>> Delaney Guzman leads the team in runs scored (14), doubles (7), and home runs (6).
>> Senior pitcher Sarah Leal leads the Cardinals pitching staff, as she has played in 22 games, pitched in 115.1 total innings, and accumulated 64 strikeouts for the Cardinals this season.
>> UIW will be hosting this Southland Series with a home-record of 7-9 and an overall standing of 14-32.
