Competing Against the Colonels

Islanders Lose Doubleheader Opener At Home

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas- Texas A&M Corpus Christi Softball cracked open their ninth Southland Conference Series of the season against Nicholls State University on April 27th. Hosting the Colonels on Chapman Field, the Islanders dropped both contests 0-6 and 0-8.

Notes
Returning to the Island for their final weekend competition at Chapman Field, the Islanders were determined to pull together a strong start against Nicholls State on Friday. Defense being the main key against the No. 1 ranked team in the conference, as the Blue and Green were able to keep the game scoreless for the Colonels for the first three innings of the opening competition. Freshman pitcher Alexis Tovar stayed in the circle for six total innings, throwing one strikeout and only walking a single NSU batter. Kandace Johnson filled in for Tovar in the second game, as she registered a single strikeout. Breaking through at the top of the fourth frame, NSU were able to construct a single run to lead the Islanders by one but extended the advantage with five additional runs in the sixth and seventh inning. Attempting to reach on base for the Blue and Green, Nicholls pitching staff were able to keep the Islanders scoreless for both games. Junior outfielder Kayla Sheridan was able to knock on the sheet for both games, going 2-for-3 at the plate in the first competition and 1-for-3 in the second. Sophomore pitcher Kandace Johnson was also able to register a single hit against the Colonels in the second contest, going 1-for-2. Nicholls State University were able to transfer-over this offensive tempo, as they were able to register an 8-0 victory in the final contest on April 27th.

COMING UP NEXT
The Islanders will conclude their ninth SLC Series against NSU on April 28th at 12 p.m. TAMU-CC will then travel to San Antonio, Texas to face UIW for their tenth and final Southland competition of the year. The closing three-game stand wil commence on May 4th with a doubleheader competition at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m., while their concluding contest of the regular season will slate off at on May 5th at 12 p.m.
