CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas- Texas A&M Corpus Christi Softball will return to the Island for their final home-held series of the 2018 season. Hosting Nicholls University in their eighth Southland Conference Series on April 27th and 28th, the Blue and Green will be honoring Senior infielder
Destiney Diaz in her final year as an Islander softball athlete.
Joining TAMU-CC's softball squad on January 22nd,
Destiney Diaz held high intentions of benefiting the Blue and Green for her final year as an Islander. Graduating in the Fall of 2018, Destiney pursues a Bachelor's Degree in Human Education (EC-6) with the desire of lecturing at an Elementary level (4th and 5th Grade). The Senior infielder created many memories with the young team, as she currently holds a 0.227 batting average, 0.278 SLG%, and a 0.291 OB% with 6 runs and 18 RBIs under her belt. "I very much enjoyed the connections and friendships I've made with my teammates and coaches; they have all made it a great year for me," says Diaz. "My coaches have taught me a lot of life lessons throughout the year and I feel like they have helped me grow as a person by broadening my viewpoint of the world and discovering my purpose for every one of my many efforts." Destiney holds a positive future for the Blue and Green's 2019 season by stating, "With the experience that they are getting now, they'll be prepared for later... continuing to play together will make a huge difference for the team next year and I strongly believe that they will be way better." The Senior infielder prepares for this upcoming SLC Series against the Cardinals on April 27th and 28th, as she plays in her final home game of her career as an Islander.
PREVIOUS GAME FOR THE ISLANDERS
Competing in their seventh SLC Series in Houston, TX., the Blue and Green powered through their first two competitions but dropped the final game against the Huskies on April 20th and 21st. Dominating the doubleheader opener 2-1 in both competitions against the Houston hosts, the Islanders were unable to achieve the three-game sweep as they lost 0-2 in the concluding contest.

Kaylee Hoppens stayed offensively persistent for the Blue and Green as they all went 1-for-3 in their opening contest against the Huskies on April 20th. Thomas's double to right center (2 RBI) in the seventh frame assisted the Islanders gain the 2-1 lead to clinch their first competition against Houston Baptist.

Kaylon Dunn registered a single run in both contests against HBU, going 2-for-3 at the plate on April 21st.

Keagan Helson knocked on the sheet for the Islanders, as they both tallied a single run against the Huskies on April 20th.

Alexis Tovar set a season high on the plate, going 2-for-3 against Houston Baptist on April 21st. Coming in for
Ashley Smith in the second competition, Tovar registered 6 strikeouts, 0 errors, and only walking a single batter at Husky Softball Field.

Ashley Smith stayed in the circle for all seven innings against the Huskies, pulling together 1 strikeout, 1 error, and 1 walk in their SLC opener. Smith now holds a 3-18 record as she steps on the field to face the current No. 1 ranked team of the Southland Conference.
SCOUTING THE COLONELS
>> Holding an 11-4 record on the road, the Colonels currently have a .329 batting average as they are lead by shortstop Amanda Gianelloni with a .392 BA. The Louisiana native carries a 12-game hitting streak with 34 RBIs under her belt.
>> Junior outfielder Kasey Frederick ranks third in BA. (.366) and slugging percentage (.604), fourth in doubles (12) and 12th in RBIs (31). Frederick leads Nicholls with 13 multi-hit games, underlined by a four-hit pair performance.
>> The Colonels pitching staff are 5-0 in a conference sweep against Northwestern State. Megan Landry, Alexis LaBure, and Amanda Holliday parted 30 total innings in the three-game clean-up, allowing just three runs and 11 hits. LaBure went 2-0, recording her first career no-hitter, while Landry registered a 3-0 stand with a 1.17 ERA against NSU. Megan Landry posts a Southland-best 18-7 record and 1.78 ERA while ranking third in strikeouts (115) and opponent batting average (.213).
COMING UP NEXT
The Islanders will conclude their regular 2018 season against Incarnate Word at San Antonio, Texas. Competing in their ninth Southland Series of the season, the Blue and Green open up the three-game stand with a doubleheader on May 4th at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. Final contest against the Cardinal slates off at 12 p.m. on May 5th.
