TAMU-CC Take on HBU in Seventh SLC Series

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas- Texas A&M Corpus Christi Softball prepare for their seventh Southland Conference of the 2018 season against Houston Baptist University. Traveling to Houston, Texas the Blue and Green will kick-off their conference contest against the Huskies on April 20th at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Final competition against HBU slates off on April 21st at 12 p.m.

PREVIOUS GAME FOR THE ISLANDERS
TAMU-CC competed against Prairie View A&M in a mid-week doubleheader competition on April 17th. Splitting the two-game stand against the Lady Panthers, the Islanders fell short in the final inning of the first game 1-0 but were able to dominate PVAMU in their closing game 11-4. The Blue and Greens pitching staff contained the mid-week hosts to 5 runs and 15 hits with 0  errors in both contests against Prairie View.

NOTES
>> Keagan Helson, Kandace Johnson, Kaylon Dunn, and Taelor Thomas all went 2-for-4 at the plate in the concluding competition against the Lady Panthers on April 17th. Out of those very four hitters, Taelor Thomas registered the Islanders only homerun in Tuesdays doubleheader. The Houston native recorded a season high of 3 RBI's and now possesses 2 total moonshots in her collegiate career.
>> Avery Ratcliff went 1-for-2, pulling together 3 runs for the Blue and Green in the closing competition against PVAMU on April 17th. The Freshman infielder now has 18 runs under her belt as she heads into their upcoming SLC Series against Houston Baptist.
>> Pitching all seven total innings, Alexis Tovar threw a season high of 4 strikeouts against the Lady Panthers in their opening competition. The Freshman pitcher currently holds a 8.10 ERA with a count of 37 strikeouts.
>> Kandace Johnson closed out the final game against Prairie View on April 17th, registering 2 K's and walking 3 batters for the Blue and Green. The Atascocita native possesses a 6.39 ERA, sustaining 41 strikeouts this season with the Islanders.


SCOUTING THE HUSKIES
>> Junior shortstop Demi Janak improves to .305 BA with 5 doubles, 8 home runs, 24 RBI's, and 18 runs heading into this weekend SLC Series at Husky Field.
>> Sophomore catcher Heidi Jaquez currently is batting .288 and leads the team with 23 total runs scored for the Huskies.
>> Freshman pitcher Jessica Patak (4-15) has started in 19 of her 25 appearances, holding a 3.78 ERA in 128.1 innings.
>> Holding a current record of 7-27, HBU are 11-19 in their all-time series against the Blue and Green.

COMING UP NEXT
TAMU-CC will return to the Island on April 27th to face Nicholls University in their eighth Southland Series of the 2018 season. Doubleheader opener slates off at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. on April 27th; final competition against the Colonels at 12 p.m. at the Chapman Field.
