Mid-Week Competition At Prairie View

Islanders Face the Lady Panthers in Doubleheader Contest

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas- Texas A&M Corpus Christi will be traveling to Prairie View, Texas on April 17th to face Prairie View A&M in a 2-game competition. The first contest against the Lady Panthers slates off at 1 p.m. with the second game following right after at 3 p.m.

PREVIOUS GAME ON THE ISLAND
Islanders dropped all three of their previous competitions against the Bearkats in their sixth Southland Series of the 2018 season on April 13th and 14th. Hosting the three-game stand on the Island, the Blue and Green were edged off by Sam Houston State 1-6 & 1-3 in their doubleheader opener and 5-10 in the series closer.

FOR THE ISLANDERS
>> Junior outfielder Keagan Helson went 4-3 on the plate while also tallying a three-run RBI homerun against the Bearkats on April 14th. The Chicago native not only registered her sixth homerun of the season but also currently holds a .244 BA, .455 SLG%, and a .296 OB% while leading with an RBI count of 27 for TAMU-CC's Softball squad.
>> Whitney Wendel staying offensively consistent for the Blue and Green, as she has been able to register a single run in both of the Islanders previous two matches against Sam Houston State on April 13th and 14th. The Freshman catcher currently holds a .330 SLG% and 22 total runs under her belt as she approaches Tuesday's competition against the Lady Panthers.
>> Ashley Smith leads the Blue and Green's pitching staff with a 6.00 ERA and 44 strikeouts. The Louisiana native has started in 23 of her 31 game appearances and pitched in 129 total innings. Smith heads into this mid-week competition against Prarie View A&M  with a W-L record of 2-18.

SCOUTING THE LADY PANTHERS
>> The Lady Panthers batting team are lead by Sophomore utility player Alyssa Garcia, who currently holds a .379 BA, .586 SLG%, and a .456 OB%. The Houston native approaches the plate against the Blue and Green with 22 hits, 3 homers, and 18 RBI's.
>> Prairie View's present pitching staff leader is Sophomore Crystal Castillo, currently holding a 4.39 ERA and 19 total strikeouts under her belt. The San Benito native looks to take the circle for the Lady Panthers as she holds a win-loss record of 3-3.
>> PVAMU approach April 17th's competition against the Blue and Green, with a home record of 5-4 and a conference record of 8-3.
>> The Lady Panthers previous competition ended with a three-game sweep against the Grambling State on April 14th and 15th.


COMING UP NEXT
Islanders will travel to Houston, Texas and face the Huskies in their seventh Southland Series competition on April 20th and 21st. The three-game stand caps off with a doubleheader contest, slating off at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.; closing game for the series beginning at 12 p.m.
