CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas- Texas A&M Corpus Christi softball will be hosting their sixth Southland Series of the 2018 season against Sam Houston State here on Chapman Field. The Islanders will be slating off the weekend series on April 13th with a doubleheader opener at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.; final game for the three-game stand starts on April 14th at 12 p.m.
PREVIOUS GAME FOR THE ISLANDERS
Returning from Lake Charles, La., the Blue and Green dropped all three games in their fifth SLC Series of the season against McNeese State on April 6th and 7th. Capping off with a doubleheader opener, the Cowgirls were capable of pulling away the first two games from the Islanders on April 6th with the final scores of 3-5 and 0-9. Concluding the weekend series against McNeese State, the Blue and Green were edged off in the final game 2-10. SHSU pitching staff held the Islanders to only 5 runs and 14 hits, while committing only 3 total errors in all three games of the series.Â

Sophomore pitcher
Kandace Johnson registered her first homerun of the 2018 season against the Cowgirls on April 6th. The Atascocita native currently holds a .241 BA, .313 SLG%, and a .323 OB% for the Blue and Green while obtaining her second shutout of the season against Abilene Christian on March 30th.
>> Junior outfielder
Kayla Sheridan slashes through with a .320 BA, .336 SLG%, and a .336 OB% leading in all three categories for the Blue and Green.
>> Pitching in approximately 124 innings,
Ashley Smith currently holds a 5.78 ERA and leads with 43 total strikeouts for the Islanders.
SCOUTING THE BEARKATS
>> Junior pitcher Lindsey McLeod pitched a complete game in the circle, avoiding a series sweep against Lamar on April 7th. Picking up her 10th win of the season, the Austin native allowed only three earned runs on six hits in seven total innings, punching out three to run her season total to a league-leading 145 strikeouts; McLeod currently holds a 2.55 ERA for the Kats.
>> Sophomore outfielder Megan McDonald leads Sam Houston State's batting staff with a .299 BA., starting in all 40 of this seasons games.
>> SHSU possess a 14-26 season record, while being 4-13 on the road as they step on Chapman Field.
COMING UP NEXT
The Islanders will be heading out to Prairie View, Texas to face Prairie View A&M University in a midweek doubleheader competition. The first game against the Panthers slates off at 1 p.m., where the second competition begins at 3 p.m.
Unique HR will be setting up a booth near Chapman Field on April 13th. Unique HR assist's students in building their overall professional resume and improving their interviewing skills with mock interviews. Students are more than welcome to bring their current resumes to the booth for further revision by a Unique HR representative and sign up for future mock interviews. All of these very options will become available at their booth table by the Chapman Field on Friday. Opening of Softball's game at 1 p.m. is when the booth will be open for service, until the final game for baseball at 6 p.m. The next available tabling service that Unique HR will provide, is on April 24th, 27th, and May 2nd.
