Islanders Take SFA To Last At Bat In SLC Opener

Blue and Green fall 5-4 in Game One of Friday's doubleheader

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Nacogdoches, Texas - Texas A&M-Corpus Christi traveled to Nacogdoches to compete in the first Southland Conference series of the season this Friday. In a scheduled doubleheader, the Islanders fell short in the first game 5-4 before losing 10-0 in the second game. 

Game One
After a strong start, the Blue and Green were unable to earn a decision over the Lumberjacks, coming up just short in a 5-4 loss. SFA took the lead in the bottom of the fifth off a 2-run-homerun. Islanders catcher Whitney Wendel went 2-for-3 at the plate with 3 RBI, while Kayla Sheridan picked up a pair of knocks and a stolen base.

Game Two
The Lumberjacks came out strong in the second game of the doubleheader beating the Islanders 10-0 in 5 innings. Alexis Tovar and Kandace Johnson both made their first appearances in Southland Conference play during this game, with Johnson squaring up a pair of singles in the box and retiring five batters from the mound.

>> Landry hit a 2-run-homerun tallying in the 10th run of the game

>> Kandace Johnson singled up the middle
>> Destiney Diaz grounded out to third, advancing Johnson to second
>> Kayla Sheridan singled up the middle before advancing to second on the throw, advancing Johnson to third
