CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas- Returning to the Island, Texas A&M Corpus Christi Softball approach their fourth Southland Series of the season against Abilene Christian University. The weekend competition, facing the visiting Wildcats, commences on March 30th with a doubleheader game at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m., closing out the series on March 31st at 11 a.m.
PREVIOUS GAME FOR THE ISLANDERS
The Blue and Green dropped all three games from their third Southland Conference Series against Northwestern State on March 24th and 25th. Being away from the Island, the Lady Demons edged off the Islanders in their opening doubleheader competition with a final score of 2-7 and 3-9. NSU's pitching staff held the Blue and Green to only 7 runs and 12 hits, but did committ 3 total errors and walked 4 Islander batters to first-base on Friday's duel. Closing out the final matchup against the Lady Demons, Texas A&M Corpus Christi were pulled away the game and lost 0-8 to the Louisiana hosts.
FOR THE ISLANDERS

Whitney Wendel registered a moonshot over left center for a single RBI early in the fourth frame for the Islanders in their first competition against Northwestern State. This puts the Texas native (4 HR) right behind the Junior outfielder
Keagan Helson (5 HR) in number of home-runs for the 2018 season.

Ashley Smith leads the Blue and Green's pitching staff with a 4.17 ERA, and 34 strike outs in 102 total innings pitched under her belt.

Kayla Sheridan leads the Islanders on the plate with a .336 batting average.
SCOUTING THE WILDCATS
>> ACU pitcher Hannah Null struck out 10 batters against Houston Baptist on March 25th. The red-shirt Senior leads the Wildcats pitching staff with a 2.46 ERA, holding a 8-9 record in the circle.
>> Senior infielder Peyton Hedrick hit a pair of home runs to lead ACU to a 7-5 win over Houston Baptist on March 23rd. While starting in all 26 of the Wildcats regular-season games, Hedrick comes into the Island with a .214 BA, .400 SLG%, and a .345 OB%
>> Abilene Christian currently have a 10-16 record as they approach this weekend series against the Blue and Green.
COMING UP NEXT
The Blue and Green will be traveling to Lake Charles, La. to face McNeese State for their fifth Southland Series of the season. Doubleheader opener for this series begins on April 6th at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m.; closing competition for the weekend series slates off at 1 p.m. on April 7th.
