Islanders Approach Southland Series Against Northwestern State

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas- Texas A&M Corpus Christi Softball will be traveling off of the Island for the weekend, as they prepare to face Northwestern State in their third Southland Conference series of the season. Islanders first competition against the Lady Demons commences on March 23rd with a doubleheader at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m., while the final game for this SLC series slates off on March 24th at 1 p.m.

PREVIOUS GAME ON THE ISLAND
The Blue and Green dropped three games from their second Southland Conference Series against Southeastern Louisiana, starting on March 16th at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. The Lady Lions edged off the Islanders early in the competition with a doubleheader loss 17-5 and 16-2. SLU's pitching staff were able to hold off the Blue and Green to only 7 runs, 9 hits, and 6 walks in their weekend series opener on Chapman Field. As the final game of the SLC sequence was pulling toward the Lady Lions favor, TAMU-CC responded with a three-run streak late in the sixth for the final game of the SLC sequence. Southeastern's lead, however, was too great for the Islanders as they took a 9-4 loss to the vistors. Junior outfielder Keagan Helson held up the offensive tempo for the Islanders, as she averaged a 0.375 BA, 0.444 OB, 4 RBI's, and a single homerun in this Southland Conference series against Southeastern Louisiana. The Chicago native also improved her hitting streak to six straight games, reaching first safely in past seven; currently holding a .421 BA since March 10th.

FOR THE ISLANDERS
>> With three doubles in Sunday's final, the Blue and Green tied the season-high they set in their season-opener against Seton Hall.
>> Senior infielder Destiney Diaz drove in multiple runs for the second time this year, on her two-RBI double in the sixth frame.
>> Sophomore pitcher Kandace Johnson went 1-for-3 from the plate against Southeastern Louisiana in Sundays closer, giving up a single hit over 1.1 IP in the circle.

TAMU-CC and Northwestern State (8-20-1, 17-9) will meet for the 29th time after this weekends contest in Natchitoches, La. Islanders leading the all-time series 14-12 with a 8-5 mark on the Coastal Bend.

COMING UP NEXT
Islanders return to Chapman Field as they prepare to face  Abilene Christian in their fourth Southland Conference series of the season. SLC competition commences on March 30th with a doubleheader at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.; closing game slating off on March 31st at 11 a.m.
